I bought this kettle last week and there was issues with keep warming option and temperature control. After my review here, I was contacted by seller and they send me a new set. This one works much better, it keeps hot water warm for extended period of time and also temperature control is acceptable. Aesthetically, this device looks great in kitchen or office. Regarding price, This is much cheaper compared to similar kettles with variable temp. Very good customer service as well. Thanks.
I don't recommend this kettle.
Update: 4/30/2018
Willow & Everett offered me a full refund and a replacement unit at no cost. I really think that they had gone above and beyond to resolve my complaint. It was a pleasant surprise and I appreciate it. I certainly hope the kettle I received originally was indeed a defect. If the replacement unit works as advertised (I am very curious about the Keep Warn button), I will provide another update. Thanks again W & E.
Update: 5/4/2018
I received the replacement kettle yesterday. I tried the Keep Warn button on the new kettle again. A couple of minutes after the water was heated, when the temperature reading dropped below 200, I pressed the button then released. Nothing happened. I then pressed and held it down for a few seconds before releasing. Nothing happened. My first thought was, maybe it just doesn't work. Then I noticed when the button was pressed down, the temperature reading changed to 140. Out of curiosity, I pressed the "+" button to change the number to 212. I then pressed the Keep Warm button again. And voila, the heating unit activated and brought the temperature to 212! Mystery solved!
So in short, the button does work but doesn't work as suggested. It doesn't hold the temperature of the water. It is a "Re-Heat" button in effect and not a "Keep Warm" button. Also, there is absolutely no mention of this button in the Operation Guide. This is the main reason I think so many customers have complained about it.
Also about the First Time Use instruction, it says the water and vinegar ratio is 1:3. I read it as 1 part water and 3 parts vinegar. WRONG!!! If you do that, the mixture is going to shoot out from the three holes on top when it finishes boiling and make a mess.
Overall, this is a good product. It's a dismay that the quality of the Operation Guide is so poor.
I confess, I bought this at a discount and with a special offer. I've never had an electric kettle before, either. Maybe I'm expecting too much, but I do wish that the gooseneck were slightly less narrow and that the body would hold more than three cups (I use big mugs) worth of water. That being said, I believe that it is an elegant appliance, if one is looking for aesthetics. I LOVE HOW FAST THIS KETTLE HEATS!!! If I could fix just one other thing, it would be the Operations Manual. I'm still not certain of how I'm supposed to utilize the "Keep Warm" function.
Overall, for what it's intended to do, heat water quickly and efficiently, this is a great buy and yes, I would have probably paid the full price for it had I not lucked into Willow and Everett's kind roll-out offer. I am proud to own a few of their other products and they are top notch and I especially appreciate the customer service and follow-up attention that Willow and Everett provide.
- heats fairly quickly
- temperature control is nice
- looks pretty good
- very thin spout gives excellent control, perhaps too much (see below)
Cons:
- Makes an electronic noise constantly, even when turned off. It's quiet enough that if you're not nearby it's not a big deal, but I keep one at my office desk and I have to unplug it or the noise makes me crazy.
- Overshoots the set temperature by 5-10 degrees, so if you want it precise you may need to trial and error the setting, or allow for some cooling time.
- The very thin spout takes about ten seconds of pouring to fill a mug, which is mildly annoying when filling something where precise control is not necessary (just brewing tea in a bag, for example)
